Chocolate Flowers | Shinji [Finished]

He blinked, taking Shinji's tone as a cue that perhaps he should be quiet. Jae took the hint, sitting on the counter silently and watching the other man count money and write down numbers. He blinked at the envelope that was held out to him, taking it hesitantly and tilting his head in slight confusion.

"It's your wages for today," Shinji explained putting his blazer back on. "I don't have a payment system set up for this shop yet, so you'll be payed in cash for the time being," the demon decided he should put that on his to do list as well.

He nodded, stowing the envelope away. "..that's fine with me.." he murmured, deciding it would join the dust sitting in his lock-box at home. Well, half of it would. The other half would get him groceries for the week, if it even lasted that long. Then again, he was used to stretching food out to last longer than originally intended.

"If you need more payment than that, let me know and I'll give you a raise or something. Are you hungry?" Shinji spoke a little bit faster than he meant to. But he figured that the offer may be nice. He didn't know what Jae's eating habits were, but neither of them had eaten anything other than ice cream all day, so maybe he would want some real food.

"...no, it's okay. I'll make due with this," he said quietly, pondering on the thought of actual food. "...yes, actually, I am...but...I can eat when I get home..." He really didn't want Shinji to buy him food, Jae didn't do very well with accepting meals from other people. He didn't like when someone wasted their money on him.

"Do you have proper food at home?" Shinji asked straightening his jacket and heading towards the door. He had no problems feeding the other, even though he often didn't eat right himself. He actually couldn't remember the last time he bought groceries or ate outside of his club aside from ice cream. "We can stop at a restaurant on the way, it wouldn't be a problem at all."

Did he have proper food at home? Nope. His fridge and cupboards were basically bare, except for a bowl of spaghetti one of his neighbors had been kind enough to bring to him. Jae sighed, shaking his head. He'd need that spaghetti for breakfast. "....I don't have anything...but Shinji...only if you're sure..."

Shinji's eyebrows felt like they furrowed quite a bit at the young man's statement. Was he sure? It was only dinner, not some virgin having sex for the first time. "I wouldn't offer if I wasn't sure," he directed Jae to his car that sat in the back of the parlor, opening the passenger door for him to get in.

"...okay...thank you," he said, bowing his head and following Shinji out to the car. He blinked, looking at the vehicle in awe for a moment before noticing Shinji was waiting for him to get in. Jae mumbled an apology, sitting himself in the passenger's seat and buckling himself in. The other man had to be some kind of rich to own something so nice.

He noticed the expression on Jae's face as he was getting into the car, but didn't understand his amazement. To Shinji, it was just a plain black car. But maybe he was just that out of touch of what was normal for most people. As he closed the door for JaeJoong and got into the car himself, he questioned if he really should take the other to the restaurant that he was originally thinking of. The place itself was extremely nice, and there was even a dress code in place for entering it, which as he looked over Jae, the other would most likely be stopped at the door. Though, the food was very good and one of the few places Shinji ever ate, so he figured it wouldn't be too much of a problem. He took them there by the quickest route in the back roads. For some reason, he never like taking main roads. When he pulled up to the restaurant, he took the car to the valet, getting out and handing the worker his keys before waiting at the entrance for JaeJoong.

It wasn't that he wasn't used to something so normal, it was that he lived so near to where everything had lost its beauty. Everything was rather run down where he lived, and he had never really been so close to something that seemed brand new to him. Jae sat quietly through the whole ride, getting out of the car when Shinji did and following him like a lost puppy. He could tell that this place was far too high class for him. They probably had a dress code, and even though he was wearing the nicest clothes he had, Jae figured that even though he was with Shinji, he wouldn't be allowed in.

When they entered the building, Shinji immediately caught the look the host gave Jae and glared at him. His arm went around JaeJoong's waist as he explained that they were there together and were to be seated at a private table. The host looked hesitant for a moment, but when he saw Shinji's eyes going white, he quickly directed them to the table that was requested. The menus were placed on the table, and Shinji internally chuckled when the host held out Jae's chair for him to sit. The demon took his own seat and picked up a menu as the host nearly ran back to his post at the entrance.

Jae shied away slightly from the look the host gave him. He wasn't sure about this now, at least until Shiji's arm slipped around him. He blinked, biting his lip and looking at his feet to hide the blush creeping its way onto his cheeks. It was better if he acted as though it was normal for this to happen. He let Shinji lead him to their table, looking a bit confused when the host pulled his chair out for him. Jae nodded his thanks silently, sitting down and scooting himself in.

"My apologies for being so close earlier, it's just easier that way," Shinji spoke as his eyes scanned the menu. They looked a little bored, and hadn't retained their normal golden brown color yet. He looked back to JaeJoong and set the menu back down on the table. "You can order anything you want, don't worry about price or anything. You seem like the type who would."

"...no, it's alright," he said quietly, offering a small smile with his words. Jae didn't mind it, even if Shinji was a little cool to the touch. He looked at the foods listed on the menu, frowning over the names he didn't recognize and at how much everything cost. He looked up when Shinji spoke again, sighing and nodding. "...okay..."

He watched as JaeJoong tried to decide on something to order. Personally, Shinji didn't even need to actually look at the menu. He knew all of the cold foods they offered by heart, so he would just order one of those. After a moment, he realized he was staring at the young man. He was extremely pretty, much more feminine than Shinji himself. His head tilted as he rested it on his palm, leaning onto the table. "If you don't mind me asking Jae, what are you?" the demon had forgotten to ask when they had met before, despite that JaeJoong knew what he was. Though it didn't really seem like he knew who Shinji was. He wasn't the most well known, but his name did get around sometimes. He supposed it was because of their difference in status. Also, Jae seemed a bit too nice to be a demon, so that would put them on separate ends as well.

He eventually settled on a chicken alfredo-like dish, despite how many things there were on the actual menu. He wanted to try the rest of it, but he would find a way to come back eventually to do that. Jae glanced up at Shinji when he spoke, blinking. "I don't mind, Shinji. To answer your question, I'm a Bai Ze," he said, setting the menu down as he did so. He'd forgotten to say anything about it, wondering now if he would regret answering the question in the first place.

"Bai Ze..." Shinji mumbled quietly in thought. He'd heard of them before, but didn't know much other than they were supposed to ward off evil and lived in the forest. Strange that the demon would come to like something like that, but he only shrugged. "Well, as long as you don't go 'holy justice' on me, we shouldn't have a problem at work," he smiled a little at the thought of the young man trying to step up to him. He thought it would be adorable. Then, as he kept looking at Jae, he couldn't help but think that he would actually be kind of sexy if he were angry.

"....holy justice...?" he asked, laughing quietly after a moment. "I wouldn't know how, that job belongs to the elders." Jae smiled, amused. He was glad he would never have that job, since such a responsibility had been voided when he was disowned and driven away.

"Well then, welcome to the dark side," Shinji joked. It was pretty unlikely for those with opposite directions to be seen peacefully together, so if his family was extreme, they would probably consider him some sort of traitor. Though Shinji wasn't exactly the evil type. He could instill fear in someone easy, but he wouldn't do it at random.

"Are there cookies?" Jae played along somewhat, smiling. The kid who lived next door to him had a sticker on his apartment door about cookies and a dark side, claiming to have gotten it from the human world. He ignored it, though.

"Plenty of them, along with cakes and of course ice cream as you saw," Shinji didn't quite know what Jae meant, but he went with it. Acutally, he knew of a few bakeries that were very good. He made a mental note to go to them again, since it had been a while.

He laughed a bit when he realized Shinji had no clue what he was talking about. "...I was joking, Shinji..." he said softly, smiling brightly at the demon. His literalness was a nice change, actually, and Jae definitely liked it.

Shinji blinked for a moment at Jae's confession. "Oh..." he wasn't sure what to say after that. He was often terrible at conversation that wasn't about work, so he didn't know what to talk about. The hand that wasn't holding his chin made it's way to his glass of water. The demon fidgeted with the glass, sculpting the water int various ice shapes with his magic. Something he often did when uncomfortable or nervous.

Had he said something wrong? Jae frowned a little, watching Shinji play with the water in his glass. "...you'd be a good ice sculptor," he said quietly, biting his lip. The thought had simply come to mind, but he hadn't exactly meant to blurt it out like that. He was sure there were a lot of things the demon would be good at, actually.
